The effect of different housing systems on the welfare and the parasitological conditions of laying hens

In Serbia, by 2020, conventional cages will no longer be permitted and hens housed in furnished cages. The study was conducted during the winter season on four rearing systems of Lohman Brown hens. For welfare assessment were used indicators from Welfare quality protocol for poultry. All fecal samples parasites qualitatively quantitatively examined. results showed that each housing system had positive negative aspects but overall, cage highest prevalence poor plumage condition (47 % 39%). Hens more skin lesions (27%) than birds other systems. Keel bone deformation most present aviary (56%) while comb pecking wound a (33%) free-range (50%). non foot pad disorders (32% 40%). cages, problems occurred are lowest. Parasitological examination diagnosed groups endoparasites: Coccidia, Trichostrongylidae Heterakis spp, Capillaria with total 64% (64/100) only system. Laying have higher expression emotions relation to Evidence hens’ emotional physical across all systems, suggests modern Serbia is impaired.
